General Guidelines

  • Applications for Admissions are received from October on in the year preceding entry to the school .
  • Students moving to Quito from abroad or from another province may apply to Colegio Menor at any time of the year.  Students starting school at the beginning of the second semester may be held responsible for some or all of the subject matter covered during the first semester.
  • Applicants to Play Group must turn three-years-old no later than September 30th of the academic year that they will enter Colegio Menor.
  • Applicants to pre-kinder must turn four-years-old no later than September 30th of the academic year that they will enter Colegio Menor.


Requirements for Admission

  • The parents of students applying to Colegio Menor must submit the following documents to the Admissions office:
    • A completed application form with picture included
    • A copy of the student’s birth certificate or Ecuadorian identification card
    • For applicants to 1st grade and above, copies of the final report cards from the previous three years.  These will be reviewed carefully.
  • Students applying to pre-kinder and above will take one or more admissions exams as indicated below:
    • Pre-kinder and kinder applicants will take a general aptitude test.
    • Applicants to grades 1 to 12 will take math, Spanish and English tests.
    • Applicants to grades 3 to 12 will participate in an interview with the area director and/or counselor.
    • All applicants must pay a $20.00 admissions exam(s) fee.
  • Students accepted to Colegio Menor may not defer their admission.  If they decide to enter the school at a later date, they must repeat the admissions process.

Readmission to Colegio Menor after a short- or long term absence

  • All readmission cases are handled by the admissions office.
  • Applications for readmission will be considered individually.  Candidates must meet current academic and disciplinary standards in the school.

Readmission after a one semester or one year absences:

  • Students who leave the Quito area for one semester or one year may reserve their space / cupo in the school by paying a percentage of the current tuition.  Cupos may not be reserved for more than one academic year.  Details are available in the school’s finance office.
  • Prior to their absence, high school students must meet with the coordinator of the Program for Academic Support (PAS) in order to confirm the courses/credits that they must take during their absence from Colegio Menor.  This will help ensure that upon their return, they will be able to graduate with their current classmates.
  • Upon their return from abroad, students in grades 6 and above must have their grades legalized/certified in the Ministry of Education and submit these documents to the admissions office.  An academic committee will analyze the subjects/credits taken abroad and will accept the transfer of credits if the students’ grades meet the minimum academic standards of Colegio Menor.
  • Reserving a space / cupo in the school does not guarantee readmission.  Returning students must meet current academic and disciplinary standards in the school

Re-admission after an absence of more than one year:

  • All applicants must submit copies of the final report cards for the years they spent away from Colegio Menor.  Students in grades 6 who studied abroad must have their grades legalized/certified in the Ministry of Education.
  • Applicants to grades 1 to 12 will take math, Spanish, and English tests.
  • Applicants to grades 3 to 12 will participate in an interview with the area director and/or counselor.
Colegio Menor reserves the right to change its admissions policies if deemed to be in the best interests of the institution.

Required Documents

The following documents must be submitted to the Admissions office upon acceptance to Colegio Menor.

 

Play Group, Pre-kinder, and Kinder:

  • Original birth certificate or a copy of the Ecuadorian identification card.  Foreign students may submit a copy of the passport.
  • Medical certificates documenting:
    • the student’s general health and all vaccines received
    • the results of an eye exam (Pre kinder And Kinder)
    • the results of an auditory exam by an Ear Specialist (Prekinder And Kinder)
    • Students entering pre-kinder and kinder must present the results of an eye and auditory exam conducted by a specialist.

Grades 1 to 6:

  • Original birth certificate or a copy of the Ecuadorian identification card.  Foreign students may submit a copy of the passport.
  • Medical certificates documenting the student’s general health and all vaccines received
  • Original report card from the most recent academic year.  If the school year has not yet ended, this document may be turned in during the student registration period.
  • Students entering 1st and 2nd must present the results of an eye exam conducted by an ophthalmologist and an auditory exam by an ear specialist.

Grades 7 to 12:

  • Original birth certificate or a copy of the Ecuadorian identification card.  Foreign students may submit a copy of the passport.
  • Medical certificates documenting the student’s general health and all vaccines received
  • (*) Original:
    • Certificado de Terminación de Primaria
    • Certificados de Promoción
    • Certificados de Matriculas for 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th grades, depending on the grades that the student has already completed.

(*) If any of these documents have not yet been legalized with the Ministry of Education, students must submit an original yearend report card for the current academic year.  The required documents must then be turned in to the admissions office as soon as they become available.  Parents are encouraged to deliver these documents personally.  Colegio Menor is not responsible for documents sent to school with students, drivers, or other third parties.

 

Students Who Have Studied Abroad

All students in grades 6 and above who have studied one or more years abroad must legalize their documents with the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education.  During the legalization process, they must submit copies of their report cards from abroad.

Requirements for legalizing grades and other documents:

Students must first have their grades certified (sellado) in the Ecuadorian consulate in the country where they studied.  They must then present this certificate and the following documents to the Departamento de Régimen Escolar of the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education:

  • Original Ecuadorian birth certificate or, if a foreigner, both the original and a copy of the passport
  • Original and legalized Certificados de Promoción for grades 6 and above
  • Original Certificado de Terminación de Primaria
  • A letter written to the Minister of Education, requesting that the ministry recognize the studies completed abroad as valid in Ecuador.
  • A letter provided by Colegio Menor indicating that the student is registered at the school

Colegio Menor recommends that you make a notarized copy of all the documents above before turning them into the Ministry of Education.  For additional information or to confirm the list of required documents, you may call the Ministry at 295-3004.
